She was born on March 13, 1992 in Hayward Heath, West Sussex, England. Kaya Scodelario is 30 years old. His mother, Katia Scodelario, is a Brazilian who moved to England in 1990; Scodelario's surname comes from his mother's Italian grandfather. His father, Roger Humphrey (who died 22 November 2010), was British. As a young woman, her parents separated and her mother raised her in London, thus acquiring her surname and becoming familiar with Portuguese.

Kaya Scodelario was 14 years old and had no acting experience. During the audition, she was disappointed that she thought she was too young, but a producer asked her to stay and she was asked to read the part.
